“The Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg March 15, 1933-September 18, 2020

The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Shabbat makes her a Tzaddeket, a designation in the Jewish tradition reserved for those known for righteous deeds. That Justice Ginsburg’s transition also occurred on Rosh Hashanah makes her a person of Great Righteousness. May her memory inspire us to action. She—like the Greek poet Archilochus—is saying “Be brave, my heart. Plant your feet and square your shoulders to the enemy. Meet him among the man-killing spears. Hold your ground. In victory, do not brag; in defeat, do not weep.”

Let us get to work building on the considerable and unparalleled legacy of The Righteous Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She fought the good fight; she finished the race; she kept the faith. She competed well. It is now our turn. Shame on us if we let her down.
