APPLICATION FOR ’20 YOUNG WORKERS CONFERENCE

Nominations are now open for YWC2020!

When: April 14-16, 2020

Where: Millennium Hotel – Minneapolis, MN

Locals are invited to send up to two members to attend, however, we only have space for 100 attendees, so this conference will sell out.

If you would like to submit a Young Worker to attend, the process and requirements are as follows:

  • All Young Worker Conference attendees must be sponsored by at least one local union officer with a letter for pre-approval (see below).
  • A maximum of two members per local may attend.
  • The AFL-CIO Young Worker Advisory Council has an age cap of 35. Local union officers should keep that in mind when sponsoring young members, though IDs will not be checked at the door.
  • The International is providing lodging and some meals for this conference. All other costs, including travel, will be at the expense of the attendee or their local union.
  • If either member has attended a past IATSE Young Workers Conference, they must write a statement detailing their involvement in the local, politically, in the community, or in the workplace since the last Conference. If the return member has not been involved in any of the ways listed above since the last Conference they attended, they will not be permitted to attend.
  • Spaces are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all spaces are filled, additional requests will be placed on a waiting list in the order they are received.
  • The application cut-off date is end-of-day March 14, 2020.

You must sponsor the young workers you choose to send by submitting a letter for pre-approval. See below for a sample pre-approval letter. It is not essential that you use this template, so long as your letter contains the following required information:

The letter must be sent by you, the local union officer, on the letterhead of your local and include:

  1. The name of the attendee, local number, and name of the sponsoring local officer(s)
  2. The name of the attendee, local number, and name of the sponsoring local officer(s)
  3. Specific reference to the Young Workers Conference
  4. The phone number and email address of the attendee
  5. If the submission is for a return attendee: a statement detailing the member’s involvement in the local, politically, in the community, or in the workplace, since the last Conference they attended.

Please submit all pre-approval letters electronically to ywc@iatse.net.  Alternatively, they can be mailed to the IATSE General Office at:

IATSE Young Workers
