CFL responds to Rauner declaring AFSCME impasse

CFL logoStatement from Chicago Federation of Labor President Jorge Ramirez regarding the Governor’s declaration of an impasse in the AFSCME negotiations

We are disappointed that Gov. Rauner has decided to declare an impasse in his contract negotiations with AFSCME.  Gov. Rauner does not want to fairly negotiate with AFSCME over terms that affect the compensation and health benefits of the men and women who serve on the frontlines, carrying out the critical and meaningful work our communities depend on to survive.  These workers provide the fundamental and necessary support to respond in emergencies, protect our children, care for the mentally and physically disabled, and keep our communities safe.  The governor has shown over the last year that he is willing to put the residents of Illinois in harm’s way to fulfill his own political agenda.  Unfortunately, this is yet another example of his ideological demands getting in the way of public safety.
