CHANGES MADE BY THE CARES ACT – MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM

IMPORTANT NOTICE

CHANGES MADE BY THE CARES ACT to the MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM OF THE HEALTH & WELFARE FUND, PLAN-C

Additional Items Eligible for Reimbursement from Health Plan C-MRP and R-MRP Pursuant to the CARES Act

In accordance with the federal CARES Act, Plan C-MRP (stand-alone and excess) and Plan R-MRP will reimburse over-the-counter medicines and drugs even if not prescribed by a physician (for example, pain relievers such as Tylenol, allergy medicine such as Zyrtec, and cough syrup), as well as menstrual care products, since these are now considered qualified medical expenses for which you can be reimbursed. This new rule applies only to items purchased on or after January 1, 2020. When submitting a claim for any of these items, you must clearly mark the receipts to indicate these items (such as by circling the items), so that the Fund Office is able to process your claim. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of your claim or a delay in processing your claim.

If you have already submitted a claim for any of these items purchased on or after January 1, 2020 and your claim has been denied, you may resubmit the claim (along with a clearly marked receipt) to the Fund Office for consideration under this new rule.

As a reminder, all MRP claims must be submitted within 12 months of the earliest date of service on your claim and must meet the claims filing and other requirements set forth in the MRP Guidebook, which can be found at http://iatsenbf.org/assets/Uploads/2019Docs/MRP-Guidebook-Eff-1-2019.pdf.
