IATSE Pride Committee Update

IATSE Pride Committee Update

July 6, 2020

Pride Month

Now that Pride month is over, we just wanted to thank everyone who came out to celebrate with us! We held two Town Halls, "How to Start a Pride Committee" and our Juneteenth session with Rashad Robinson of Color of Change, and two social events. The first was a virtual Pride Parade/March and the second was a virtual Tea Dance. Both were a ton of fun and gave us an opportunity to partake in the Pride events we otherwise would have missed this year due to the ongoing pandemic.

IATSE Pride Town Hall

On Friday, July 10th, we are holding our next Town Hall event, "Pride is Political". We will be discussing why it's so important that, as both union members and members of the LGBTQ+ community, we care about politics and get involved.

We will be welcoming the IATSE Political/Legislative Director, Tyler McIntosh, and International Representative Krista Hurdon as our special guests.

Tyler (he/him/his) joined the IA family in September 2019 as the new Political/Legislative Director. He is a passionate advocate for advancing workers' rights and fundamental Democratic ideals, utilizing professional experience in legislative advocacy, political fundraising, and grassroots activism to achieve positive outcomes for IATSE members and families.

Krista (she/her/hers) works out of the Canadian Office and is the Rep responsible for the Canadian side of Politics and Communications. She drafts government submissions and lobbies the government at the Federal level to fight for issues that effect the IATSE and its Canadian members.
