Cinespace Chicago Film Studios announced today that Fox’s new American drama series, neXt, will film at its West Side campus this fall. The studio announces the news less than 24 hours after unveiling its 2019 production schedule, adding another high-profile show to the busy mix.

Created by writer, director and producer Manny Coto, neXt is the story of an Alexa-type gadget named Eliza that develops a mind-of-its-own and rises up against the people who made it.

“We have a full lot at Cinespace this season and we’re really happy that Fox’s neXt has chosen to film here in Chicago,” says Cinespace President Alex Pissios. “Our neighborhood is buzzing with all of the energy the productions bring in, not to mention all of the job opportunities that come with a fully-leased film studio.”

Veteran actor John Slattery, who became known to millions of viewers as Roger Sterling in Mad Men, is the modern-day Dr. Frankenstein who confronts his own creation in neXt. He teams up with a cybercrime agent played by Fernanda Andrade (The First) to fight the monster that communicates in a disturbingly pleasant monotone while feeding off of humankind’s own weaknesses.

Slated to debut midseason, neXt also stars Michael Mosley (Ozark), Jason Butler Harner (Ozark), Eve Harlow (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Aaron Moten (Mozart in the Jungle), Gerardo Celasco (How to Get Away with Murder), Elizabeth Cappucino (Jessica Jones), and Evan Whitten (THE RESIDENT).

 A busy year for Cinespace

In addition to neXt from FOX, other new shows filming at Cinespace include Utopia, an Amazon Studios production written by acclaimed author Gillian Flynn; Fargo, an FX production in season 4 and starring Chris Rock; and Genius: Aretha Franklin, season 3 of the National Geographic series.
