Our condolences …

We send our thoughts and prayers to the family of Local 769 Member Travis Halsey, who passed away Monday, April 6, 2020.

Further details will be provided as they become available.

It is with immense sadness I share the passing our unique, fiercely talented, and truly one of a kind, Brother Travis Halsey. Prior to opening his successful business, Halsey Onstage (https://www.halseyonstage.com/), many of us worked with Brother Travis during his tenure at the Joffrey Ballet. During his engagement there he dazzled both his immediate colleagues as well as dancers in his position as First Assistant. Sincerest condolences to his Husband, Carlos-Leandro Butcan, Mother Cheryl Halsey, as well as his myriad of friends and colleagues...and especially his family from Joffrey Ballet: Marianne Marks, Gregg BenkovichLavinia Morozan, Debra Schoel, Barbara Luschinger, Mary Luschinger, Daniella Pop,Carrie Schwetz. and countless others. What a time we all had with him! Thank you, Travis.

Below is a tribute posted yesterday by Halsey Onstage, Shop Manager Jarrod Lewis:

"Hello everyone,

It is with a heavy heart I am sharing the unfortunate news that our beloved teacher, mentor, and friend, Travis Halsey has passed away today, April 6, 2020, at around 3pm, at his home in Chicago; surrounded by his family.

For the majority of you, this is very sudden news that nine and a half months ago Travis was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. After prognosis and treatment it was a fight that he unfortunately lost. No matter what room Travis entered all eyes were on him, even up until his last moment. While still managing to bring the attention to each and everyone else.

During this time Travis had on his bright, smiling, and welcoming face every day that you all came to know and love. Over Travis’ life we all learned many valuable lessons; be it about making tutus, ballgowns, or just being a good human being. Never forget everything he gave to each and every one of us and think about how we can remember him by passing that on. Let this time be a time of mourning but also remembering all the joy he brought to us.

As of right now we are still deciding as to what will be the future of Halsey Onstage.

Due to the current world circumstances we will not be holding a funeral or visitation at this time.

At a later unknown date and location we will be having a memorial service here in Chicago.

We will keep everyone posted with information as it is decided.

Just as Travis would say “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! See you all next time!”

Bravo, Brother Travis!
